- Bansuiso was built as a residence and guesthouse in 1922 by Count Sadakoto Hisamatsu, who worked as a military attaché and lived in France for 15 years. Reflecting the count’s appreciation for French style building, it was a social gathering place for high class officials and celebrities. The Royal Family also paid visits to the villa whenever they visited Ehime Prefecture. It is said that the construction of Bansuiso was rushed to be in time for the visit of Crown Prince and Regent Hirohito (later Emperor Showa) to Matsuyama City. Bansuiso escaped the ravages of World War II the buildings have been preserved in a good state. It was designated as a Tangible Cultural Property designated by Ehime Prefecture in 1985, and in 2011, the main building and the administrative house together were designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
